Implant Dentistry
Dental implant are commonly referred to as artificial teeth, and thus people often use ‘teeth implants ’ and 'dental implant’ synonymously. Yet implants are actually just artificial roots. Made of titanium, these teeth implants are screwed into the bone, and as time passes, the bone fuses to the implant. The resulting stable foundation may then be restored with a crown, bridge or denture, and the final structure then looks like an implanted tooth. As the closest replacement for natural teeth available, implants provide excellent function as well as appearance. The implant is placed during a brief operation usually requiring only local anaesthetic. Teeth implants are an ideal option for non-smoking patients in good general health, who have good oral hygiene. |
Orthodontic Dentistry Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that is primarily concerned with the treatment of malocclusions (improper bites). Orthodontic treatment is the use of braces, most commonly to straighten crooked teeth or to correct prominent upper front teeth. Fixed braces work by moving teeth in the bones so that all the teeth will be aligned and later, use the back teeth as an anchor to pull the front teeth. Two common types of fixed braces available are Metal braces and Ceramic braces. |
Periodontic Dentistry
Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection that affects the gums and bones supporting the teeth. It begins when plaque forms around the tooth allowing bacteria to form and surround the tooth causing decay, inflammation and bleeding. Tartar is not removed by regular brushing, a complete dental cleaning or prophylaxis performed by our dentist is necessary to remove all tartar residues. With time, plaque can spread and grow below the gum line causing gingivitis to develop. Gingivitis is the mildest form of periodontal disease, it causes the gums to become red, swollen, and bleed easily. Untreated gingivitis can advance to periodontitis, a disease where the gums surrounding your teeth will pull away from their place and form spaces that become infected. Your body's natural response to infection starts to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold your teeth in place. If this disease is not treated, the bones, gums, and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed causing the tooth to possibly become loose and have to be removed. |
Oral Surgery
Oral surgery is the specialty of dental practice that deals with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the mouth, jaws, face and related structures. This includes the removal of impacted and decayed teeth, placement of dental implants, biopsy and removal of cysts and tumors of the mouth and jaws, treatment of facial trauma and reconstructive jaw surgery. |
Prosthetic Dentistry
The branch of dentistry that deals with the replacement of missing teeth and related mouth or jaw structures by artificial devices. Prosthetic dentistry deal with construction of artificial appliances designed to restore and maintain oral function by replacing missing teeth and sometimes other oral structures or parts of the face. |
Digital Imaging (X-Ray)
A full series of x-rays is the first step in a thorough dental examination because it gives us a full view of your mouth. X-ray is very important because the x-rays provide dentist the vital information to detect hidden decay or abnormalities in the teeth, mouth or jaw. Some dental problems could go undetected without the use of an X-ray, such as: abscesses or cysts, tumors, decay between the teeth, bone loss, dental injuries, impacted teeth, abnormalities, poor tooth and root positions or alignment, problems inside a tooth or below the gum line and more. X-rays are used to plan a dental treatment for a patient, since they provide our Glendale dentist with the necessary detailed information needed. They also help us detect and or prevent dental problems at an early stage which will allow you to save time, money and your teeth’s overall health. |
Root Canal Treatment
Endodontics, or root canal treatment is enough to have the most brave patients feeling a little nervous! However, potentially daunting endodontic treatment is made easy by our dentist. With years of experience and kind-hearted nature, our dentist is skillfully able to restore the most difficult-to-manage cases in a comfortable and friendly environment. Endodontic treatment is required when the inside of a tooth becomes infected or inflamed due to decay or trauma. The procedure involves the endodontist removing the source of infection under a binocular microscope, cleaning and shaping the space inside the root and then filling it to avoid future infection. Local anaesthesia is provided to ensure patient comfort, and the entire procedure should take one or two visits. |
Extraction
Permanent tooth that has become completely non-vital and that can’t be saved using any other restorative procedures will have to be extracted. Extraction involves local anesthesia to prevent undue pain and stress on the patient. The tooth is normally checked to see its root condition i.e. whether there is potential breakage of root. If required, an X-ray examination will be done to ensure the whole root profile can be examined. Many factors affect the complexity on an extraction such as the profile of the tooth, the condition of the gums, patient anxiety and also brittleness of the tooth structure. |
Crown
Crowns are a cap used to cover over a tooth that may be broken or decayed to strengthen or improve the cosmetic appearance of the tooth. Crowning is a popular procedure. Crowns are highly durable and are used when a tooth has been fractured, has decayed or needs to be protected from external factors. Crowns are also useful to hold a dental bridge in place and to cover a dental implant. |
Bridge
A dental bridge is an appliance used to fill a gap from a missing tooth. You can greatly enhance the appearance of your teeth and get a beautiful smile with dental bridging. Types of dental bridges: - Traditional bridges consist of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap with a false tooth in between. - Cantilever bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the gap. - Maryland bonded bridges are made up of plastic teeth and gums supported by a metal framework. The dentist begins bridgework by filing down the teeth to accommodate the crowns. Impressions of the teeth are made to create the dental crowns. The false tooth (or teeth) will then be bonded to the crowns. The bridge will be put in place during a follow up visit. |
Whitening
Teeth whitening has become one of the most popular ways to enhance your smile. At Tan Dental Surgery, we offer a range of teeth whitening options and our dentist will provide you with all the facts you need to make an informed decision about your teeth. Tooth whitening can be performed to reduce discoloration and staining, or simply to provide the patient with whiter, brighter teeth. One visit is usually all it takes for a bright smile. |
White Filling
To treat a cavity your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then "fill" the area on the tooth where the decayed material once lived. Fillings minimal areas of tooth decay may be successfully restored using dental fillings. Traditionally, teeth were restored using amalgam (silver), and this material still has its place in some cases, but we are now able to offer patients a choice in materials. If aesthetics is a concern, composite resin (a tooth colored material) may be used that is virtually undetectable in the mouth. |
Denture
Denture is a plastic appliance with plastic or porcelain teeth attached to it. Used to replace all missing teeth in one arch. A conventional denture is placed in the mouth about a month after all the teeth are removed to allow for proper healing, whereas an immediate denture is placed as soon as the teeth are removed. The drawback behind an immediate denture is that it may require more adjustments after the healing has taken place. |
Minor Oral Surgery
Minor oral surgery is a procedure common to a few types of treatment needs: - Removal of impacted wisdom tooth. - Removal of broken root. - Removal of badly chipped tooth. Minor oral surgeries like extraction normal teeth, impacted molars, apicectomy, periodontal surgery etc are performed here after thorough evaluation and planning. |
Impacted Wisdom Teeth
Impacted wisdom teeth are third molars at the back of the mouth that don't have enough room to emerge or grow normally. Wisdom teeth are the last adult teeth to come into the mouth (erupt). Most people have four wisdom teeth at the back of the mouth — two on the top, two on the bottom. Impacted wisdom teeth can result in pain, damage to other teeth and other dental problems. In some cases, impacted wisdom teeth may cause no apparent or immediate problems, but they may be particularly vulnerable to disease. Impacted wisdom teeth that cause pain or other dental complications are usually removed. Some dentists and oral surgeons also recommend removing impacted wisdom teeth that don't cause symptoms to prevent future problems. |
